Was killed in action on the 10 April 1918 on the Western Front, and he was buried at Villers-Bretonneaux Communal Cemetery (Row B, Grave No. 5), France.
Awarded the British War Medal, Victory Medal.
Brother: 1661 Pte Albert Edward Godden, 53rd Battalion, who returned to Australia on the 23rd September 1918.
