About this objectA Christmas card with holly and berries in top left hand corner and two sheets of cardboard bought in the fold with white cotton.
On the front of the card is a crown, the letter 'M' and 1914.
On the first page of the card is printed: 'With/Best Wishes/ for a/Happy Christmas/and a/Victorious New Year', and on the second page 'From/The Princess Mary and Friends at/ Home'.
A decorative hinged lid brass tin box sent by Princess Mary to members of the British, Colonial and Indian Armed Forces. Impressed on the front of the lid is 'CHRISTMAS 1914' beneath a profile of a woman's head inside a circular garland of leaves, and the letter 'M' on either side.
Inside the box are:
- a cream coloured Christmas card with a red printed crown, and below an 'M' and '1914'. Inside the card is a sheet of paper caught in the centre fold with white cotton. There are printed red and green holly and berries in the top left hand corner. The text inside reads "With / Best Wishes / for a / Happy Christmas / and a / Victorious New Year / from / The Princess Mary & Friends at / Home"
- two cardboard boxes lying side by side. Both are labelled at the top "HER ROYAL HIGHNESS / THE PRINCESS MARY'S / CHRISTMAS FUND / 1914". One of the boxes contains "CIGARETTES" and the other "TOBACCO".
