Name/TitleRim and tyre measuring wheel 'traveller'
About this objectUsed to measure the circumference of steel wheels and tyres. A wheel wrights' implement used during fitting and adjusting steel on wooden wheels. this one was made by the local smithy and chalk was used to mark the measuring wheel.
This wheel came from ''The Junction'' near Tuena. Given to me by the late Mr. Bob McKenzie of that address. This wheel was made in the very early days of the family at the "Junction". It is a good example of the very first types of tool that the family used. Later equipment was bought in Sydney and all facilities on the Station were updated. This measureing wheel was first used in 1880, when the McKenzies moved to the area. In later years the station buildings consisted of Smithy, Church, Shop, Butchers Shop, Shearing shed and other buildings scattered around the large homestead.
More information on this "Wheel" is to be found under No. 96 ''The Shrinker''.
