About this objectThe old books called this type "A Trying Plane". Note the attempt to repair the mouth with a steel plate. This is an indication of the times and problems at the times a-nd-probrems-at-t"he-tTnre. With little available material to repair the plane, the owner did his best, with a piece of steel to get the tool operating as well as it normally did. I doubt the attempt was successful.
