About this objectBox contains safety matches with a brown coloured head. The insert is made from balsa wood, it contains the matches and slips into the cardboard cover. The balsa wood has been covered with green paper. Two narrow sides have special abrasive paper which acts as a striker for the match.
Bryant & May's safety matches and box made for P&O line and the British India Steam Navigation Company and features the insignia of both companies.
It is possible that the matches and box were made as a promotional tool to commemorate the fusion of the two companies in 1914.
