Subject and Association DescriptionRoy John Silk and Herbert Patrick Silk were both born in Molong, Roy on 14 January, 1915 and Patrick on 19 July, 1923 and lived in the family home next door to the RSL Club. Roy enlisted in the 2/13 Battalion on 28 May, 1940, serving in North Africa and at Tobruk. In a letter from Jerusalem, he mentioned that “We are wearing (his Robards uncle) Edgar’s colours now and trying to live up to the traditions those chaps established last time.” Roy was wounded twice and was “Mentioned in Despatches” He died 1 March, 1960, from complications from war wounds.
Patrick enlisted in 2/9th Armoured Corps on 27 November, 1942. In May, 1943, as part of the new 4th Armoured Brigade, the 2/9th moved to the Atherton Tablelands in 1944 and then was involved in the invasion of Borneo, when Patrick was in a Matilda tank company. He also served in Japan for 2 years after the end of the war.
