Subject and Association DescriptionEdgar Reuben Robards enlisted in the 13th Battalion and as part of C Company, landed at Gallipoli on 2 August, 1915. He was injured at Lone Pine and evacuated to the Australian General Hospital at Heliopolis in Egypt. Edgar departed for Australia on 20 October, 1915 but died on 11 November. Edgar’s fiancée, Miss Ettie Clarke, had been given details of Edgar’s last day and his burial at sea, by the Chaplain on the hospital ship and she wrote of these to Edgar’s mother.
This was the last portrait that Anne Marie Ingham painted, but it was never finished. Her family decided that it should be left as it was. The photograph of Edgar Robards was supplied by his family some months after uncompleted portrait was unveiled by his nephew, Mr Rex Robards.
