About this objectSet of 7, 14 pieces, lead lined testicle x-ray covers, used to protect the testicles when x-raying the pelvis area of male patients.
The testicle x-ray shields are a significant collection to the Carcoar Hospital. While not provenanced to Carcoar Hospital they were used at Orange Base Hospital and in the same health district. Similar devices would have been used at Carcoar within the x-ray unit. The shields, while not rare, are not a common object in museum collections.
They are a significant teaching aid in the Carcoar Hospital Museum and engage visitors with their novelty but represent the serious message of fertility protection and the work health and safety of not only patients but nursing staff as well.
Along with the x-ray and developing rooms and other related objects in the collection the testicle x-ray shields are used for educational engagement.
