About this objectThe Mount York Grindstone is a small, well worn, stone with a large chip from one side. The location on which the stone was found is steeped in early European history, explorers, convict road gangs, road building, crossing of the Blue Mountains and the opening up of the interior. While the provenance of the stone itself cannot be proven it’s interpretative value to the location and also to the Viv Kable Collection is significant. Viv was a true pioneer in collecting early European district history and he believed this to be the oldest piece in his collection.
