Sewn into the canvas is a dark brown rectangular plastic backing board, with a clear thin plastic covering. There are four metal clips holding the clear plastic cover firmly to the backing board. A canvas flap folds over the document holder. Printed on the canvas is "C.G. Hartley & Co. 1942", and the number '47' beneath an upward pointing arrow head mark.
