Croagh Patrick

The Orange Patrician Brothers’ Monastery and Training College, to be known as Croagh Patrick College, was blessed and officially opened by Bishop Dunne last week. The building was formerly owned by Mr. Lane and Mrs. Hubbard, and was purchased by the Brothers at a total cost of £4600. It is a handsome building, with about 50 acres of ground. Bishop Dunne said that the object of the college was to give boys a higher education. They would consider it unpatriotic in their people to make their primary schools mere, grinders or feeders to the State high schools, when by some sacrifice they could, secure schools of their own creation, and under Catholic management. The establishment of a novitiate in Orange would largely increase the teaching staff of the Brothers’ schools. A subscription list was opened and promises and amounts received.
